The Old Man is ontstaan vanuit een familiebedrijf dat in 1924 is gestart met het verkopen van Aziatische en Afrikaanse kunst. Destijds bestond de naam The Old Man nog niet, die is in 1978 geboren. De naam is de verdienste van het inmiddels-beroemde beeld, dat al meer dan 40 jaar voor onze deur staat.
