The Old Man was born in 1978. From 1988 the store became 'The Old Man Amsterdam'. Then The Old Man started selling skate and snowboards. Snowboarding skyrocketed and took on a life of its own. At that time there was no example of how it should be done, only a lot of love for the board sport. Every Thursday there were screenings of upcoming board films and almost all successful Dutch Boardsporters were sponsored by the store. The Old Man soon became the leading skate and snowboard shop in Amsterdam. Later other board sports, such as surf and wakeboard, were added. Hence the name 'The Old Man Boardsports'.

Compared to our other stores, The Old Man Boardsports is a cozy, noisy, cool store in a unique building, where there always seems to be something going on. If it's not the colorful and strange types we occasionally see, it's the staff who are fooling around with each other, or hurtling down the stairs in a homemade cardboard bobsleigh. Always safe and with an eye for the customer, of course. We will approach the customers in a friendly, enthusiastic, sometimes with a humorous witticism, but always with honest and good advice, here we distinguish ourselves from many other shops, especially in the center of Amsterdam.

In the center we focus more emphatically on the fashion around our Boardsport brands. Such as Billabong, Burton, Volcom, Roxy, but also Carhartt WIP. Our shoe rack is skater oriented, with Vans, Nike, Adidas and Cariuma. You will find our specialism above. Snowboard equipment in winter and surf and skate equipment in spring/summer. The skater, surfer and snowboarder can go here for a new snow, surf, skate or long board, but also for a Billabong wetsuit or a GORE-TEX winter jacket. We don't compromise on accessories either, with BARTS and Secrid. The store has been around for 35 years now and remains one of the most authentic places in the city center.
